Site Updates

February 25, 2008

Yes, another update. I was trying to navigate to the “Odds ‘N Ends” page only to find there was some sort of script running. After checking EVERYTHING, I finally found that I must have pasted a script that was supposed to go into my MySpace site. How odd. Anyway, it would screw up Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera...all of them. Fixed it, then proceeded to modifiy some of the navigation bars. “You can’t get there from here” should have been the site’s motto. I’m working on improving that and have taken some giant leaps forward as of this update.

February 21, 2008

Another MAJOR update. I have done some updates since the date below, but I actually LOST the website for about 6 months. Turned out that it was sitting on a laptop computer I hadn’t been on in quite some time. Anyway, I changed the look of the site so that all of the fonts are the same (Arial 16 pt) and widened the site to take advantage of the wider (1024x768) monitors. Although the computer I’m using here has a 1440x900 widescreen, I’m not going to go that way yet. I’ve also updated the list of links on “Sights ‘n Sounds so most are working now (except the webcams that NOLA has that I’m not sure are ever going to be up again, but I’ll be checking. All in all, a major update.

September 3, 2005

Wow. A ton of updates since August 29, 2005. And I haven’t really kept up with the updates that I have done over the past year. But there have been quite a few. Many changes in the way the site looks. I’ve added the Katrian News page, which was created on August 30, 2005. I have been updating that page EVERY day...sometimes several times, depending on what I’ve discovered; new links, new news, updated photos, if there are any really worth updating to. I’ve changed the tip jar to a donation jar, which has already been emptied to the Red Cross once as of this date for a total of $32.00. Thanks for your help. That’s about it for now.

August 23, 2004

Here we are again. Another site update. I’ve been changing the pages to fit that 1024 format. Changed the menu navigation bars and am experimenting with several formats thoughout the website. I think I may have finally settled on the one that’s on this page. I’m trying to eliminate the drop-down menus because of problems uploading them (well, there used to be, anyway). We’re trying the KISS principal (Keep It Simple, Stupid!). Wish me luck.

August 16, 2004

What an upgrade. I’m currently working on it. And no, it’s not perfected, yet. I have a live streaming feed from KMRC in Morgan City, LA that plays Swamp Pop music, a genre that you’ll enjoy if you’re into the 50’s and early 60’s type music. Increased the page width to be optimized on a 1024x768 screen. In other words, a whole new world. Hope you enjoy it. I’ll be updating the updates page soon.

August 6, 2004

I discontinued a site that held most of the larger pictures, so you couldn’t view them. I am preparing to move this site to a larger hosting service and combine both “The Gates of Dixie” and “The Beauty of Lousiana” into one large site, incorporating all the photos and text. Look for it very soon. It’ll be awesome.

November, 7, 2003

Well, had to go through all of the links. I had my personal website (it holds the large version of the photos) because of a security problem. Changed a bit of the text, but didn’t spend a lot of time on that...this change took about an hour and a half...I was getting tired, but I did manage to check links and correct most of them (there’s still a couple I have to fix, but not tonight!).

September 7, 2003

Found errors in the links on “Let’s Eat” and “The Bayou” pages. They simply weren’t linking because I used code from an old version of NetObjects Fusion that had to be changed to make it work properly. Did all the other pages, as far as I know, but forgot those. Hope I got it all done now. Also moved and redid some of the navigation bars.

July 16, July 25, 2003

Added music to many (but not all) pages and hopefully corrected counter so it’s not reading the count from my friend, Richard De Rose’s site. Interesting problem, can’t figure out how that happened. Anyway, it MIGHT work since I got the supposidly corrected code. Also added the animated the “other sites” banner text boxes at the top. Might take that off since it doesn’t seem to add anything really of a positive nature to the site. I’m probably just showing off a bit :-)

March 20, 2003

While listening and watching the news coverage on Fox News Channel about the Iraqi war (Started watching on 3/19), removed the “center in browser” commands, it screwed up the formatting of the page. Made the left border much less crowded and in the process, less confusing. Doesn’t look as much like a kidnapping letter. Still gotta fix some of the website. Added some animation to the page...have the Beauty of Louisiana link fly in. Just an experiment. Won’t add too much more of that, though. I think that’s it.

February 27, 2003

Decided to create a site update page that hopefully I’ll keep up to date with. Today, I changed a bit of the text on the home page and added this site update page. Formerly, I used the Odds ‘N Ends page to put notes in. No longer. I’ll put the last site update below that was over there. Added meta-tags to allow some search engines to find this site a bit easier.

Feb 14, 2003

Added Java flyout navigation bars to the top of the page and eliminated a rather confusing navigation system that was still quite functional. Realize that most nav bars are on the left (traditionally), but I like the idea of drop-down boxes, sort of like what you’d see in most computer applications (software).

Approx Jan 1, 2003

Relocated all photos at my personal webspace on arczip.com (they give me 100Mb) to reduce bandwidth usage on Onestop.net, the host of this site. On Dec 17, 2002, I got NetObjects Fusion 7.0 which allows easier linking options than did 2.0 or 4.0.

Dear Guests: We have worked very hard on this site in hopes that it will educate, inform, and entertain. All donations are appreciated, once we get our tip jar back up, but if you can’t do that, please donate a little of your time to signing the guestbook below and let us know what you think. As always, we appreciate your comments. Thanks, Gil Davis -- Jay Barrymore
