Card Games

Bourre'

Five cards are dealt to each player.

The dealer turns up his/her 5th card. This becomes the trump card. Each player looks at their cards, keeping any trump cards and discarding others. Some players might prefer to keep Aces of the other suits, but this is not a requirement.

The dealer then deals cards to each player to bring their hand count back up to five. The dealer then picks up the face-up trump card which he previously placed on the table and returns it to his hand. Play now begins.

The player to the right of the dealer leads off. That player may NOT lead a trump card first unless his hand is all trumps or a “sure” win, that is, Ace, King, Queen. Everyone must follow suit. If you do not follow suit you must try to trump the trick and take it, if possible. The object of the game is to take the most tricks. If a player doesn't take any tricks that is a Bourre' and is out of the game (or must match the pot, if any, to stay in).

Dear Guests: We have worked very hard on this site in hopes that it will educate, inform, and entertain. All donations are appreciated, once we get our tip jar back up, but if you can’t do that, please donate a little of your time to signing the guestbook below and let us know what you think. As always, we appreciate your comments. Thanks, Gil Davis -- Jay Barrymore
