Orleans Street

Orleans Street is the heart of the Quarter, broader than any of the other adjacent streets.
In the view above, we are looking at the rear of St. Louis Cathedral and
St. Anthony’s Garden (which contains the statue).

Located just feet away from the St. Louis Cathedral is the opulent Bourbon Orleans Hotel.
The Bourbon Orleans ranks as one of the area's top haunted hotels.  Among other reported incidents,
a ghost dancer has been seen on occasion dancing beneath the ballroom's crystal chandelier.
The current site of the Bourbon Orleans was home to the Orleans Ballroom and the Orleans Theater
in the early 1800s.  In 1881, it was acquired by the Sisters of the Holy Family and converted into a convent.
The need for expansion movtivated them to sell the property to hotel interests in 1964.
